Wakey wakey it's 0530. There is ice on the steps getting out of our house and ice on the car windows. It was snowing coming to work.
My first trip Avery pharmacy today was in the snow. But I did a silly thing. I went to the cafeteria to buy a salad for my lunch because there is no vegetables here at the shelter and they don't bring it in the meals. Somehow my Red Cross card wouldn't work at the the cafeteria so I used my credit card. They have an ATM machine there and I went to get cash to cover my meals. Withdrew the cash and left it there. The vending machine guy happened to be there and was watched that I did it and turned the money into the office at the hospital. They knew I was at the Rock gym and called there and told me to go get it. My second trip up to the hospital it wasn't snowing.   That's some kind-hearted people here. On the way back I stopped at CVS to get some cheap hairspray to try to get the ink out of my pants. When I put a pen away if it has the point sticking out it makes marks on my clothes. There's some pretty leaves up here that are all changing colors.
SRT is here to put people into RC care. As they put them in, I started charting on the ones that needed medical information.
Then this man from the county came in and said we're closing our shelter and they're going to send everybody to hotels. We'll see how that goes.
It was a dramatic flurry of activity. It was 2 hrs from notification to deposit of all the clients and their belongings. I was frantically trying to find a shelter bed for my domestic violence drug addict. They are closing the shelter on Friday at noon. The two people here who are homeless cannot go to the the hotel that they assigned because they don't have open cases in FEMA. A young man that's homeless wants to go back on the street when we close at noon on Friday. My DV client is either not going to go through withdrawals or she is just doing great. So she went to her dad's work to try to get her dad to go to the car she was living in to get mail that shows she's a person. Tomorrow I'll take her to the county office to get a copy of her birth certificate. Well I am really not allowed to take her, we are not allowed to transport clients. Then she is going to try to get to a DMV so that she can replace her driver's license or ID, but there's none open less than 2 hours away from here.  Hopefully I can get her in a shelter. Otherwise on Friday at noon we open the door and she asked to go to the street. It's 35° outside and intermittently snowing. I don't want to do that. The people who were off today took pictures of some areas they went exploring. I haven't seen these things personally but here's some pictures.
I finally had time to eat lunch at 4:30. I found a salad at the hospital cafeteria when I went on my pharmacy run.
Yum!
This is our current shelter crew
It's going to be cold tomorrow
I don't think I ever mentioned it, but there's a vigilante prepper group up on the hill that's been providing us meals. The Red Cross food is usually late and awful. But these guys do some pretty good cooking. They are called five Stones. They are all rough people but very nice. They are all armed. They packed up to leave today.
Near the end of our shift we heard from the friend of the families sent to the hotel they have no water, the electricity if going on and off, my guy on oxygen is short and the bed is to hi. There are port o pottys. They are a long walk in the 30 degree weather. My guy has chf/COPD O2 dependant on LASIK and 2 abx for pneumonia and a foot infection. He wears diapers. They are so mad and believe the red cross kicked them out. I tried to explain it was the county that organized this for them, and they were taken from us by the county. We did not want them to leave. I called AJ about the situation and he is mad too.
I feel bad for them but there is nothing I can do. They told us we are not to contact them.
