Oct 23 going home

I finished packing and left for rc HQ. I went the wrong way on the freeway and it was 3 miles before I could turn around. I was trying to get there at 7a. Well it was 7:15 but no trouble. I returned my first aid kit. Turned in my, cpc card. Made copies of all my expenses and expenses report, turned in receipts. Turned in car keys and reported the scratches on the car.  Met my ride and we set off to the airport. The gps took city streets instead of the freeway. It took about half an hour. In the river district we passed more evidence of Helene's destruction. Checking in and security was very quick. I usually fill my water bottle from city water after security but if course the water is not potable.  I had to buy some. And they're happened to be a cinnabon stall. I bought a mini one. Oct 22 last day

I got an email last night to request transportation put me on a shuttle to get me to the airport for Wednesday. So I called them. The lady was driving and I have to call her back today.  I went to exercise in the gym this morning and somebody had set the temperature up to 80 in the room. It made it very oppressive to exercise. I lasted about a half an hour on the bike. I got a text from Rhonda last night that she went exploring in Swannanoa after her work. If I have the energy left maybe I'll go by there on my way home to the hotel tonight. Or maybe go before I go to work.       I arranged transportation from Red Cross headquarters to the airport. They want me to leave at 8:00 in the morning from headquarters.   I ended up going to see Swananoah this morning.       I worked at one sit...

Oct 21 comfort stations

Last night I fell asleep about 6:30 when I got back to the room and woke up at 9:00 in time for the zoom with my friends . Then went back to sleep.  I woke up about 5: 30 and went to the gym for an hour. The same as yesterday. Half an hour on the bike in half an hour on the elliptical.   Today I am hoping to make my flight arrangements to go home.      I tried to book my flights this morning from Asheville to San Diego. American doesn't come here so it has to be Delta. When the lady was helping me she said I'm not authorized to fly out of Asheville. They want me to fly out of Charlotte. But she would attempt to put in the Asheville departure and call me back if that doesn't work. I also got a call from DHS and they want to have Mary Rose contact me today to set up an eval tomorrow. When I called transportation about the car they say it needs to go back to Charlotte or I need to give them the name of who I'm turning it over to. I don't know who I'm tu...

This page got lost and I had to recreate it.  Today we got busy cleaning and organizing. The nursing desk went from To I had to buy five bins to organize the medications. I wonder what the other crew did before we got there for the last 2 weeks. The main desk went from  to and the supplies that were dumped on the bleachers turned into The unused cots to be cleaned. I continued to get medications for clients. I had a difficult time getting access to Dharma and Scia there was some computer issue that took days to resolve.

Oct 20 2 comfort stations

I woke up around 6 :00 and went to the gym and did a half an hour on the bike and then the elliptical. It felt really good. Then I showered and got ready to go to my first assignment. It was really amazing to be clean and put lotion on and feel like a girl.  It's 41 outside.  My first assignment is at a parking lot with the national guard at 85 tunnel road from 9:30 to 12:00.      Well this site has 65 porta potties. None that are handicapped. They have two clothes washing trucks and two shower trucks. There's a lot more red crossers here and a lot more national guard. It's an office Depot parking lot and all the restaurants are open on restaurant row on Tunnel road. Hopefully I can get a salad there before I head over to the other site. There are the phone chargers and internet here as well as a warming tent. Someone told me that whole foods is open. I think that'll be my lunch spot.       There seems to be quite a b...

Oct 19 leaving Newland to

Today I leave Newland and have to return to Ashville to unload the DHS supplies and receive a new assignment. When I drove up here it took 2.5 hrs, but Google says it's only 1.5 hrs to get back. I guess some road has been repaired.  I work to about 6 and Cindy came in to say goodbye. She actually gets a day off today.  It's 7am and Rhonda is not up. I really hope she is ready on time.      I put my stuff in the car and turned it on to start defrosting the windows. There's ice again. I went back in the house where it was warm and let it defrost for 20 minutes. It was perfect. Rhonda and I drove down towards Asheville. We stopped at waffle House for breakfast. Got to clear the air a bit. When we got to the Ashland office, we both met with Fran individually and she gave us new assignments. We wrote accommodation letters for AJ who is single-handedly managed the shelter from the first day of the flooding. He's a remarkable man.  I am going to a Weaverville comf...
