Oct 11 orientation and trip to job site

I had a hard time going to sleep last night due the time change. And them misread my watch thinking it was 6am and how packed up. It was 4am. Oops.     Today the day started out with nice breakfast at the hotel.
We started our 100 mile drive to Ashville it is supposed to take 2.5 hours. The drive is lovely! Green grass and trees!
We stopped at a waffle House in Shelby on the way for lunch. A customer in waffle House paid for our lunches. How sweet!
I made it to Asheville and for the most part everything seems to be intact.
The IT people helped me get scia on my tablet. But I did it on my phone.
I am being sent to Rutherford Presbytarian Church. Apparently some very disabled people that need a lot of physical care with feeding and toileting. Change of plans.... Stay flexible
Now being sent to Avery County Rock Gym in Newland NC  I have a 2 hr drive, I hope I get there before dark. Ashville had power with no water. Stopped to fill with gas and got started. Paul was so good to talk to me while I was driving. I was really nervous. I'm driving 2 hours up into the mountains where there is no power or water, I'm told my GPS won't work, they didn't give me a map. I'm told I probably won't have phone service. I'm afraid I will get lost and sleep in my car.
Stopped at a pilot that had fully functional power and bathrooms. And continued on. Ended up at a road sign blocking the road to residents only, the police let me thru But said the road was blocked 3 miles ahead. When I got there they had us park in the shoulder, said it would be half an hour or so. Apparently a tractor partially fell off the road and they are trying to fix it.
When we got to go it was 5 miles up a very steep dirt road With some parts broken. I was getting nervous the whole rest of the way would be like this. So glad the road got better.  The town of Newell is not destroyed it has power and water although water is not drinkable. It was dusk when I arrived at the shelter. I meet the 2 nurses I am replacing. I think they leave tomorrow or the next day. I am rooming with 3 others, 2 of which are leaving tomorrow or the next day. So it seems there will be a mostly new crew.  There is 10 households and 22 people in the shelter. They have not been too reliable with food delivery I am told.  I asked when I should be at the shelter. They don't turn the lights on till 730 so I don't need to be there till then. It is creepy having to travel in the dark. I was anxious to get to the staff shelter because it's getting dark and I don't know where I'm going.  No wifi at the staff shelter. We have beds, sheets and were given towels. Not as nice as last night, but adequate. I may put my mattress pad on my bed though.  so glad all the things I was worried about did not happen and I had phone and GPS all the way here, and there is power and water here. I did put my mattress pad on the bed, it makes it better.
